A Whitewater Romance
Each of Vesta Technologies' four regional offices are working on individual proposals for the contract to lead the launch of the company's new app, HighlightREAL, Maya Alvaro working on it for the East office located in New York City. So is it coincidental that company CEO Allegra Adams has at the last minute invited one representative from each of the four offices to a company wilderness retreat in the Colorado Rockies, Maya chosen to represent East? Maya's boss Marilyn doesn't think so as she is certain that it is to scrutinize each of the four proposers as one more measure of evaluation on which office will get the contract. Marilyn explicitly states that Maya will get her much wanted promotion to an executive position if she gets the contract for East, which means Maya sizing up the competition at the retreat and exacting a little sabotage on the other three if required. The problem for Maya is that she is a city slicker through and through which will not put her in the best light to Allegra. What Maya is most worried about is what she learns will be the whitewater rafting expedition taking up most of the retreat, the last day when they will tackle the most challenging section of Breakneck Bend. Another problem is that she finds the other three are all accomplished in life in general far beyond what she feels she has, including in outdoor activities. And while she finds that Claire from Vesta South in Houston and Luis from Vesta North in Chicago are genuinely nice people, Maya doesn't like Matt from Vesta West in Los Angeles as arguably her biggest competition. Beyond trying to avoid the adventure activities and fearing the last day, Maya is further irked that Allegra has paired each of the four up, with Matt being her partner. In the competitive nature of their tasks, Maya may start viewing Matt in a more positive light as they have to work together, which places her in a difficult position as she has to make a decision on advancing her career against sabotaging Matt, her new friend.
