Give Me Your Heart
Belinda Warren is having a love affair with Robert Melford, a British aristocrat, who feels bound to his invalid wife Rosamond, in spite of his affection for Belinda. Unable to continue the affair, Belinda goes to Italy to visit her father, who dies suddenly of a heart attack, leaving her penniless. She returns to England and moves in with her unsympathetic aunt, Esther Warren, where she gives birth to Robert's child. With the help of her friend, author Edward "Tubbs" Barrow, Belinda gives up the baby to the Melfords. Desolate, she goes to the United States, where she meets Jim Baker, a successful American businessman. He falls in love with her and marries her, even though she will not reveal her past. Belinda, who now goes by the nickname "Bill," buries her heartbreak in a meaningless life of parties, but grows increasingly nervous, as she uncontrollably destroys her marriage. Her physician, Dr. Florence Cudahy, suggests psychotherapy, but it is Tubbs who solves Belinda's dilemma when he arranges a meeting among Robert, Rosamond, Jim and Belinda. As the evening progresses, the mysteries of the past become clear to Jim and Rosamond. When Belinda sees how deeply Rosamond loves her son Edward, she is freed from her years of guilt. At last, Belinda sees the depth of Jim's devotion and realizes she is truly in love with him. Written by AFI
